coco Ayumi (Ethno-Exotica Vaudeville),,,
In 1997, she started creating fusion dance incorporating various genres, and after visiting India for the first time as part of a university class in 2005 and becoming fascinated by the country, she began to pursue dance with Indian culture as its theme. She created a choreography using the hugely popular number "Kajra Re" from a Bollywood movie that she had heard there and which had taken the world by storm, and performed for the first time with her long-time friend and belly dancer AYUMI at Ofuna Kannonji Temple in 2006. After walking their own paths, they will perform together again at Bohemia on June 30th this year, 10 years later!!
In 2005, she first traveled to India and while studying indigenous cultures while dancing with various ethnic groups, she learned that there are traditional folk/tribal performing arts that are disappearing and changing with the times. She named her unique multi-ethnic entertainment based on India "Ethno-Exotica Vaudeville" and began cultural preservation activities both at home and abroad as a dancer who transcends nationalities on the global stage.
In 2016, she married into a 7th generation traditional folk musician family that has served as court musicians in the royal courts of various Maharajas in Rajasthan. Together with them, she is pursuing a further mission as a citizen of the world, to carry on the folk arts of Rajasthan, North India, to the world.
